Kansas and Missouri Rest Area Ball is a game that my brother and I made up while traveling through Kansas and Missouri. A lot of the rest areas in these two states have a particular kind of shelter that we found works nicely for an enjoyable travel game. For this game, you need two or four people and either a racquetball or a tennis ball. The rules are simple:
- The two players (or teams) stand on opposite sides of the square shelter.
- Each team takes a turn throwing the ball over the roof of the structure.
- The ball must touch the roof at least once on each throw.
- If the ball does not touch the roof on a throw, that throw is foul.
- If the ball contacts the ground before the opposing side's roof edge, the throw is foul.
- A point is scored by the throwing team when a fair throw hits the ground on the opposing play area.
- Foul throws are forfeit, and the other team gets to throw.
- Sets are scored to 15 or another number agreed upon by all players before the match.
- Sets must be won by two points.
- Between each set, players switch sides.
- A match is best of five sets.
